On November 27th, 2025, saxophonist, singer-songwriter, electronic producer, and field recordist Laura Misch will release her new project Ambient Reworks via One Little Independent Records. Conceived as an extension of her breathtaking 2025 single “Alchemy,” the release invites contemporary artists KMRU and Isobel Waller-Bridge to reinterpret the track through their own distinct sensibilities. The result is a pair of sonic reimaginings that feel like parallel worlds—each built from the same melodic and textural DNA, yet arriving somewhere entirely unique.

When composing Alchemy, Misch explored how breaking apart her own musical language could become the starting point for transformation. Rather than treating the song as a finished artifact, she viewed it as a material in motion—something that could be reshaped, softened, and reassembled. By allowing melodies, textures, and field recordings to fracture and fold back into one another, Ambient Reworks took form. Misch describes Alchemy as a “repurposing of textures and threads I have been playing with for many years,” and this new release continues that process, echoing the lyric’s invitation to tear something open only to let it bloom again in a different form.
More than a simple extension, this two-track release approaches reinterpretation almost as a design practice—a way of understanding how sound can be deconstructed and reorganized to shift emotional resonance. While Alchemy guided listeners through a delicate auditory landscape—airy, nostalgic, and imbued with a quiet tenderness—Ambient Reworks turns toward spaciousness and a sense of suspended movement. There is a refined patience to these compositions, a willingness to let tones expand, dissolve, and return in softened shapes.
The music moves like light passing through colored glass: diffused, refracted, and deeply felt. It invites the listener not simply to hear, but to dwell—gently—within its unfolding
